Sangre Gitana:  Rumba & Flamenco Band - Founded 1997 with an idea from the Artists "Fronteras No Mas" and Stefan Schyga. Now ten years later Cesar Ivan former bassist for Fronteras No Mas has joined us. We are all Bowie High Grads and most of us performed with Bowie Mariachi along side the Great Ricardo Barragan.  We were a team of guitar players teaching grade school children how to play guitar. I (Frank) met Hugo when I was just a Freshman at Bowie and Hugo had asked me if it were possible for us to play music like the Gipsy Kings just then Heber...Hell Yeah we can!!!! My brother Rick started by just creating a beat on an old guitar I had and he said..." Hey I can keep a beat". So then we all came together and said ...Hey lets try to make a group like the Gipsy Kings here in El Paso; however we didn't know what places around town actually enjoyed this music so we turned to Cesar and Fronteras for some help. Cesar Ivan of Fronteras No Mas mentioned that his band was going to be performing at a place called Dolce Vita and so he invited us to play a few tunes with them. The followers of Fronteras No Mas decided to call us " A Rose is A Rose". So we went on with this name for about a year. Angel Sermeno (former lead singer) had mentioned the name Rosa Blanca. The band liked the idea however our booking managers and bar supervisors asked us to change it, because they felt that the name "Rosa Blanca" reflected to a female band. So in the year 2001 the Gipsy Kings came to town and we caught up with the lead singer (Nicolas Reyes) at the Camino Real Hotel. We sat down with him and played Djobi Djoba for him. He clapped and congratulated us. We had expressed the idea of a new name for the band and that's when he said SANGRE GITANA!!!! He went on by stating " I baptize you in our homeland with the name SANGRE GITANA...you are now a part of our family." So here we are....hoping to one day make as big as the Kings themselves. We really like to take this time and thank those who have participated in our group: Blanca Sanchez (Singer), Hugo (Rocky) Ponce (Guitarist), Brenda Serano (Singer), Erika Moreno Hernandez (Singer), Juan (El Juanio) (Bassist), Kalia (Singer/ Guitarist), Ana Sanchez (Singer), Isabel Gonzalez (Singer/ Guitarist), Angel Sermeno (Singer/Guitarist), Carlos Torres (Singer/Drummer/Bassist), Dago (Drummer), Joe Davide Reyes (Drums/Percussionist), El Mouse (Congas Percussion)
